"MS Subbulakshmi
discarded her physical body on Saturday December 11, 2004, She
lives on in the minds and hearts of millions of music lovers
in India and abroad. Her sublime eternal voice keeps ringing
in our ears as we wake up to the sounds of her Suprabhatam as
the sun rises and continues to enthrall us throughout the day."
- Radha Hari (Smt M.S. Home Page)
"During Suprabhatam, the Suprabhatam,
Stotram, Prapatti and Mangalasasanam slokas are recited, and
a descendant of Tallapaka Annamacharya sings a few of Annamacharya's
sankeertanas. Devotees present at the time of Suprabhatam can
have the Lord's Suprabhata Darsanam, also called Viswarupa Sarvadarsanam.
"This stanza has a lot more beauty than
a literal reading affords it. To get a better view, a little
background: The seven great rishis (sages) are supposed to reside
in the heavens as the seven stars of Ursa Major and explained
in the literal translation, Akasa sindhu refers to the milky
way, which was viewed as a divine river flowing through the
heavens. If seen this way, the stanza takes on a loftier, almost
cosmic tone. We see the greatest sages of all time, ever present
in the skies as the stars of Ursa major plucking "flowers"
off the milky way itself as a morning offering to the Lord."
